Humana Inc., one of the nation’s largest health and supplemental benefits companies, needed a faster, more efficient way to process high-volume mail-order prescription transactions. Its earlier integrated mail extraction and scanning approach created bottlenecks, slow throughput, and extra manual work, making it difficult to handle about 11,000 orders in a six-hour window while meeting same-day turnaround targets.

Humana implemented a split solution using Agissar for automated mail extraction and ibml ImageTrac high-speed scanners for document capture and classification. With ibml, Humana now processes up to five times as many orders per hour, operates with one less shift and nearly 75% fewer FTEs, and scans more than 12,000 pages per hour. The new system also improved image quality, reduced downstream exceptions and check rejects, simplified scanning jobs, and lowered physical document storage needs.
