A IBM Case Study
Woodside Energy, a leading Australian natural gas producer, faced major disruption from COVID-19 and oil-price volatility, which delayed LNG development plans and intensified the need to cut operating costs. Seeking to transform its operations and move toward autonomous, AI-enabled workflows, the company partnered with IBM and IBM Garage to scale digital capability and improve efficiency.
IBM helped Woodside Energy start with a small HR onboarding pilot, then expanded the approach into the Woodside Accelerator to streamline, automate, and redesign business-critical processes across operations. The program has identified more than 30 initiatives and could reduce operating expenses by an estimated AUD 110 million per year, while also speeding onboarding and accelerating the company’s broader 30% cost-reduction goal.
