Using analytics technologies to monitor and reduce stress levels across the organisation

Dow Benelux, a subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, sought to proactively monitor and reduce workplace stress across its organization. The challenge was to move beyond simple compliance with occupational health legislation and instead embed employee wellbeing into its core business processes. To achieve this, the company worked with IBM to implement an analytics solution using IBM SPSS Statistics software.

The IBM solution involved developing a shortened, reliable employee survey to quantify stress levels. The collected data was analyzed to trigger interventions for individuals and departments scoring below a set threshold. This data-driven approach enabled Dow Benelux to reduce its absenteeism rate to just 3.1%, significantly below the industry average, resulting in substantial annual cost savings and creating a happier, more productive workplace.
