Uses the Internet of Things to Improve Food Security in Africa

EZ Farm, a small-scale farming initiative in Kenya, faced water-supply constraints that limited crop yields and posed a threat to local food security. IBM (IBM Research) addressed this challenge using Internet of Things and cloud technologies, including IBM Cloud, Bluemix and IBM IoT Foundation.

IBM deployed field sensors and a cloud-based platform to give farmers and agricultural aggregators real-time water-condition data, enabling better irrigation decisions and investment targeting. The IBM solution improved crop quality and yields for participating farmers and created a scalable platform designed to extend to millions of farms across Africa.
