UK drives Industry 4.0 innovations with world-class, factory-ready AI solutions

The Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre needed a faster, more accurate way to detect faulty parts and reduce waste in safety-critical manufacturing. To support its Industry 4.0 work, AMRC turned to IBM and used IBM Maximo Visual Inspection software with IBM Power Systems AC922 and IBM FlashSystem storage to build an AI-enabled visual inspection system.

IBM helped AMRC deploy an optimized on-site AI platform that improved image processing, model training, and storage for large inspection datasets. The solution delivered image-transfer speeds of 5 GB/s versus 70 MB/s before, enabled a trained model in about 20 minutes, and helped AMRC complete a proof-of-concept for a startup in just five days.
