Case Study: BEC achieves decentralized planning, financial transparency and cost savings with IBM Hybrid Cloud

A IBM Case Study

Transforms organizational culture to deliver maximum value for customers

BEC, a Danish IT service provider for financial institutions, needed to move away from a centralized, spreadsheet-driven budgeting model to empower managers, increase financial transparency, and cut costs. Working with IBM (and partner Kapacity), BEC adopted IBM Cognos TM1 as part of its IBM Hybrid Cloud approach to support a shift to a “beyond budgeting” decentralized management philosophy.

IBM implemented the Cognos TM1 solution, replacing manual consolidation with an in‑memory, automated financial platform that gives managers real-time visibility, simplifies forecasting and frees central finance for strategic dialogue. The IBM-powered change boosted accountability and faster decision‑making, improved service agility for customers, and is projected to cut BEC’s costs by DKK 200 million (about USD 29 million) a year — roughly 20% of annual expenditure.
