Westnetz, part of the E.ON Group and one of western Germany’s largest energy distribution network operators, needed a faster, more reliable way for more than 1,600 field engineers to access maintenance and outage information across its vast electricity, gas, water, and broadband networks. With IBM Consulting, the company set out to improve support times, simplify service request handling, and make critical data easier to reach during both routine work and emergencies.

IBM Consulting, working through IBM Garage and the IBM Apple Partnership, implemented Grid Care, a mobile app that gives technicians centralized access to work orders, maps, circuit diagrams, manuals, and system data on iPhone and iPad. The solution also supports offline use and faster dispatching during outages, helping Westnetz achieve a 10% productivity increase among field staff, improve first-time fix rates, and keep repairs moving even in remote areas or network outages.
