The Port of Barcelona transforms its IT infrastructure

Port de Barcelona, the main logistics infrastructure in the southern Mediterranean, needed to modernize its aging IT environment to support faster, more efficient, and more sustainable operations for the 500+ companies connected through its Port Community System, PORTIC. The port turned to IBM, working with SEIDOR, and used IBM LinuxONE to transform its core platform.

IBM helped implement a scalable Linux and Kubernetes-based architecture with Red Hat OpenShift, improving performance, agility, security, and disaster recovery. The 10-month project increased messaging capacity, reduced licensing costs, and is expected to cut CO₂ emissions by more than 175 metric tons over five years, while enabling the port to grow without expanding its physical footprint.
