Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP), a group of Ecuadorian shrimp producers, wanted to prove that its premium shrimp met the highest social and environmental standards while helping consumers understand where their seafood came from. To address this challenge, SSP worked with IBM and the IBM Food Trust platform to add transparency and traceability across its supply chain.

IBM implemented blockchain-based traceability so each shrimp could be tracked from pre-farm inputs through processors, distributors, and retailers, creating a shared “version of the truth.” The solution helped SSP validate claims such as zero antibiotic use, neutral water impact, and full traceability, strengthening trust in the brand and supporting premium pricing while improving market differentiation.
