Case Study: Border Security Force achieves strengthened security and real‑time collaboration with IBM Notes and Domino

A IBM Case Study

Preview of the Border Security Force Case Study

Supporting one of the world’s largest defense organizations with a secure collaboration platform

Border Security Force, one of the world’s largest border defense organizations, needed to replace a legacy email system to better protect sensitive data and help its 4,500 back‑office staff more effectively support some 250,000 front‑line personnel. To shrink its attack surface and meet stringent security requirements, the Border Security Force partnered with IBM to deploy an enterprise‑class collaboration platform based on IBM Domino Social Edition and IBM Notes.

IBM implemented a secure environment including IBM Domino, IBM Notes, IBM Sametime for real‑time messaging and IBM Traveler for mobile support, with FIPS 140‑2–aligned public key authentication, encryption and digital signatures. The IBM solution was rolled out across the back office, improving secure communications with government agencies, enabling faster support to front‑line forces, boosting availability and reducing the risk of unplanned downtime—strengthening the Border Security Force’s information‑security posture and operational responsiveness.
