A IBM Case Study
Sun Life Financial, one of Canada’s largest financial services companies, needed to modernize its mainframe-based development process to keep up with digital competitors and faster customer expectations. With aging, poorly documented code and retiring subject-matter experts, the company struggled to assess application dependencies and make changes efficiently. To address this, Sun Life turned to IBM and its Application Discovery and Delivery Intelligence (ADDI) solution for IBM zSystems.
IBM implemented ADDI with design, configuration, and rollout support from IBM’s Deployment Project Office to help Sun Life automate impact analysis and improve developer productivity. The results included a 50% reduction in code search time compared with manual methods, a 35% reduction in analysis time for a COBOL compiler change, and faster time to market for new digital services. IBM’s solution also helped Sun Life generate job graphs and better understand application dependencies, strengthening its mainframe DevOps modernization efforts.
