EDEKA Rhein-Ruhr Stiftung & Co. KG needed a way to streamline access to information spread across multiple document types and sources for its internal IT support team. EDEKA worked with IBM, using IBM Watson Discovery and IBM watsonx.ai, to explore how generative AI could improve support for software systems used in its stores.

IBM helped build a pilot solution that ingested manuals and technical documentation into a searchable knowledge base, then used watsonx.ai to generate natural-language answers from relevant passages. The custom app improved problem-solving time dramatically, and IBM reported a return on investment of less than three months.
