A IBM Case Study
CinePostproduction, a leading German post-production facility, faced the challenge of needing to speed up the ingest and delivery of very large Digital Cinema Packages (DCPs) to cinemas, a process that was slow, unreliable, and costly when relying on physical shipments or traditional digital transfer methods. To overcome this, they turned to vendor IBM and its Aspera On Demand service to create a modern, high-speed digital distribution solution for the DACH region.
The solution involved IBM's Aspera On Demand being integrated into CinePostproduction's in-house SHARC platform, creating a hybrid cloud model for fast, secure transfers. This allowed the company to deliver DCPs, which can be up to 1.5TB in size, in mere minutes or hours instead of the days or week previously required. The measurable impact was significant, enabling faster on-time deliveries to over 100 movie theaters using their existing internet connections, which also resulted in substantial cost savings by eliminating the need for expensive physical shipments and dedicated fiber optic lines.
