A IBM Case Study
The University of California struggled to manage deferred maintenance across 10 campuses, 2,300 buildings, and more than 62 million square feet of space, with inconsistent asset data spread across 20+ systems. Working with IBM, the university needed a better way to identify its assets, assess their condition and risk, and build credible, defensible funding requests.
IBM helped UC implement a standardized facility condition assessment program using IBM TRIRIGA and IBM Maximo Real Estate and Facilities as part of its ICAMP initiative. The solution inventoried 125,000 assets and 41,000 deferred maintenance opportunities, quantifying a $6.7 billion backlog; it also helped UC secure $475 million in funding over two years, 30% more than the previous six years combined, while improving prioritization, collaboration, and data-driven investment decisions.
