A IBM Case Study
RunKeeper, a fitness app company with over 30 million users, faced a major scalability challenge with its existing PostgreSQL database. This single-server system created performance bottlenecks and was a single point of failure, threatening to halt their growth. To overcome this, RunKeeper turned to vendor IBM for a solution, ultimately implementing IBM Cloudant Dedicated Cluster.
The IBM solution provided a fully managed, cloud-based database that could easily handle high volumes of data and user traffic. This eliminated performance issues, removed the need for a dedicated database administrator, and provided seamless scalability. As a result, RunKeeper was able to reassign a team member to focus on user experience and ensure their service could grow without being constrained by its database layer.
