A IBM Case Study
Owens-Illinois, Inc. (O-I) was pursuing a company-wide business transformation to reduce costs and streamline operations, and needed a more cost-effective, resilient database platform for its global SAP and business data. Working with IBM, O-I moved off a legacy Oracle system and onto the IBM Db2 platform to support its manufacturing and enterprise systems across five continents.
IBM implemented the migration smoothly with more than 100 weekend cutovers over six months, with no disruption to business users. The project delivered seven-figure TCO savings, reduced storage needs by 50 percent, and improved database performance by up to 30 percent, while also positioning O-I for future analytics and machine learning with IBM Db2 and BLU Acceleration.
