Case Study: Renault achieves faster, more transparent supply chain compliance with IBM Blockchain Services

Renault invites makers and suppliers along for the ride

Renault needed a faster, more reliable way to manage the huge volume of compliance documentation tied to its auto supply chain, where thousands of parts from hundreds of suppliers must meet safety, environmental, and emerging cybersecurity regulations. To address this challenge, Renault worked with IBM to explore blockchain technology through the IBM Blockchain and Hyperledger Fabric platform.

IBM helped Renault develop XCEED, a blockchain-based solution that certifies compliance for vehicle components from design through production and aftersales. In pilot testing at Renault’s Douai plant, XCEED archived over one million documents at up to 500 transactions per second, while reducing paperwork, improving transparency, and nearly eliminating data discrepancies across the supply chain.
