A IBM Case Study

Preview of the Prysmian Group Case Study

Reducing IT infrastructure costs by 20% and supporting new business growth with IBM Cloud

Prysmian Group, the global leader in power transmission and telecommunications cables, faced the challenge of integrating the fragmented IT estates created by its 2018 merger with General Cable and needed an infrastructure able to host growing SAP S/4HANA and other SAP-based workloads. To harmonize multiple ERP systems, support future digital projects and accelerate post‑merger integration, Prysmian Group engaged IBM and extended its strategic outsourcing to build a cloud platform on IBM Cloud (including IBM Cloud for SAP Certified Infrastructure).

IBM implemented a modular IBM Cloud environment using SAP‑certified bare metal servers, IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions, and IBM Services for managed operations, with backup and resiliency via Zerto and IBM Security and Resiliency Managed Services across IBM Cloud data centers in Milano and Frankfurt. The deployment delivered two new SAP landscapes in a matter of months, improved SAP BW/4HANA business‑intelligence usability, and is expected to reduce Prysmian Group’s total infrastructure costs by about 20% while supporting scalable, on‑demand SAP workloads.
