A IBM Case Study
COPEL, the Brazilian electricity and telecommunications provider, was facing rapid double-digit growth and needed to keep its core systems and Oracle Database-based applications performing reliably for millions of customers. Its aging server infrastructure could no longer support rising demand, putting service quality and uptime at risk.
IBM helped COPEL upgrade to two IBM Power Systems E880C servers running IBM AIX and supporting Oracle Database. The new environment delivered 49% more Oracle workload capacity without extra cost, reduced backup time by 43%, and is expected to save about USD 2 million in migration and hardware costs, while also freeing up 49% of Oracle licenses for other uses.
