1-800-Flowers, a highly seasonal e-commerce retailer, needed to rapidly scale its application environments to handle large holiday spikes (Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Christmas). Working with IBM and using IBM PureApplication/PureApp technology on IBM Cloud, the company sought a faster, more predictable way to deploy and scale systems for peak demand.

IBM implemented pattern-based deployment with PureApplication software so 1-800-Flowers could quickly provision and later scale down environments. As a result, IBM helped cut application deployment times from 60 hours to 2 hours, reduced deployment errors through more predictable system behavior, and enabled a more consistent online shopping experience during high-traffic periods.
