Quenches thirst for excellent customer experience in East Anglia and beyond

Anglian Water, the largest water and water recycling company in England and Wales by geographic area, needed to replace aging back-office infrastructure supporting critical SAP applications before it reached end of life. With millions of customers relying on fast, reliable service, the company faced rising business risk, increasing downtime, and pressure to improve efficiency and sustainability. IBM helped address these challenges using IBM Power Systems and IBM Db2.

IBM migrated Anglian Water’s core SAP solutions to IBM Power Systems servers and IBM Db2, replacing 24 machines with six IBM POWER8-based IBM Power System E850 servers and two Power System S822 servers. The result was a 66% reduction in server footprint, 40% shorter batch times, and improved operational resilience, disaster recovery, and customer service. IBM also helped Anglian Water reduce data volumes from about 5 TB to 2 TB, lowering storage needs and operating costs.
