A IBM Case Study
Banca Carige, one of Italy’s largest banks serving about 1.2 million customers, needed a more customer‑centric approach to understand customer behavior and launch modern mobile services while preserving the security and 24/7 availability critical to banking. To meet this challenge the bank partnered with IBM, deploying IBM software on IBM zEnterprise EC12 mainframes—including DB2 for z/OS, IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS, WebSphere, IBM Campaign and CICS—to build a secure, high‑performance platform for analytics and mobile banking.
IBM implemented a consolidated analytics environment and a new mobile banking architecture on the zEnterprise platform: centralizing the data warehouse on DB2 for z/OS, adding DB2 Analytics Accelerator to speed queries, migrating marketing databases, and running mobile web services on WebSphere/Linux on zEnterprise with transactions processed through CICS and DB2. The result for Banca Carige was faster, secure 24/7 digital services, a single “version of the truth” for analytics, reduced cost and complexity by eliminating distributed data marts, and the ability to deploy innovative mobile services quickly for its customer base.
