Case Study: Prometeo Platform safeguards firefighters’ lives with IBM Cloud

Prometeo uses container-based architecture to scale health monitoring application

Prometeo Platform S.L., a Barcelona-based startup, needed a better way to protect firefighters from the health risks of wildfire smoke and toxic exposure. Working with IBM and IBM Cloud services, the company developed an IoT-based health monitoring platform that could track firefighters in near real time instead of relying on manual Excel records and a few data points per fire.

IBM helped Prometeo Platform scale the solution using a cloud-native architecture with IBM Cloudant, IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service, and IBM Cloud App ID. The system now uses wearable sensors and machine learning to show simple color-coded alerts on dashboards and smart devices, enabling command centers to act quickly; the project won the 2019 Call for Code top prize and has been field-tested in Spain and around the world.
