A IBM Case Study
SparkCognition, a US-based cognitive computing analytics company, needed to help customers make sense of huge volumes of machine and security data—security teams routinely faced roughly 10,000 alerts per day—and sought cognitive software to distill and prioritize those alerts so experts could focus on the right problems. SparkCognition partnered with IBM and implemented IBM Watson software/Watson Analytics to provide the required cognitive capabilities.
By using IBM Watson to process and understand unstructured data and enable what‑if reasoning, SparkCognition deployed solutions (for example, predicting pump failures six hours in advance for Flowserve) that dramatically boosted customer productivity. The Flowserve deployment improved pump engineer productivity by a factor of 20, and security threat research and resolution times fell from nine labor hours to nine seconds—a 99.9% reduction—demonstrating measurable impact from IBM’s technology.
