Nationwide Building Society faced increasing competition in the mobile banking sector and needed to rapidly deploy and continually develop a leading mobile banking app to improve its digital reputation and member experience. To address this challenge, they worked with IBM and its Global Business Services team, specifically leveraging their Strategy and Change: Technology Strategy services.
IBM implemented a solution using a hybrid accelerated development methodology, taking on full project management responsibility under a fixed-price agreement. The result was a highly successful app that was delivered on time and on budget. The app was downloaded over 1.4 million times, had over 800,000 active users, and was used over 165 million times in a year. New features like Quick Balance, used over 51 million times, and Impulse Saver, which helped members save over £10 million, provided significant measurable impact and contributed to Nationwide being named “Best Overall Online Provider.”
