Multivac finds SAP applications and IBM System i make the best package

Multivac GmbH & Co. KG, a German manufacturer of packaging machines, faced the challenge of replacing its legacy applications with a modern, integrated SAP ERP solution to support its global growth. The company needed a highly available infrastructure capable of 24/7 operations, Unicode support for worldwide use, and a seamless integration with its existing Lotus Notes & Domino collaboration software.

IBM provided a solution built on two IBM System i servers with POWER processors, the i5/OS operating system, and the integrated DB2 database. The implementation leveraged native high-availability and virtualization features, resulting in near-100% system availability, a smooth transition for nearly 1,000 users, and the ability for just two administrators to manage the entire SAP and DB2 landscape without a dedicated DBA. IBM's solution delivered excellent performance, substantial long-term TCO savings, and a scalable platform for Multivac's continued international expansion.
