Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance, Finland’s largest private-sector pension insurer, needed more agility to speed up digital service delivery and reduce delays caused by monolithic applications and limited development environments. Working with IBM and IBM Business Partner Tieto, the company turned to IBM WebSphere Application Server Liberty Profile and IBM Cloud Private to modernize its development setup.

IBM helped Ilmarinen containerize application development and move to a single, cloud-connected platform based on microservices and Kubernetes. The results included more flexibility, change deployment times cut from days to minutes, and a task that once took 15 specialists three hours now completed by one person in just 10 minutes with IBM Cloud Private, while maintaining firewall-protected security.
