Major retailer reduces time to patch 27,000 endpoints from weeks to hours

Major Retailer, a leading U.S. retail chain with more than 3,000 stores and 27,000 endpoints across its Virtual Store Architecture, needed to streamline central control, provisioning, configuration management and inventory reporting for its distributed servers. To modernize and automate these processes the company worked with IBM and adopted the IBM BigFix solution.

IBM helped plan the migration and deployed BigFix agents to provide bottom-up, near‑real‑time visibility and automatic reporting as endpoints come online. As a result, a 2,400 staff‑hour software deployment now completes in 32 hours, the team reclaimed more than 59 weeks of staff time, inventory reporting that previously took days now finishes in about 10 minutes, and proactive testing/rollback has significantly reduced severity‑1 incidents—outcomes the retailer plans to extend across other environments using IBM BigFix.
