A IBM Case Study
EL AL, Israel’s national airline, needed a better way to track its 46 aircraft 24/7, comply with new flight-tracking regulations, and respond quickly to weather hazards, operational restrictions, and security threats. The airline had been relying on text-based weather reports, which made real-time situational awareness and flight planning difficult.
IBM’s The Weather Company implemented Fusion, a near-real-time flight tracking solution that combines weather, aircraft positional, and airport data on one map. With IBM, EL AL improved dispatchers’ awareness, enabled continuous aircraft tracking for regulatory compliance, and optimized routes and fuel usage; for example, it avoided a costly Tel Aviv-to-Rome cancellation by adjusting fuel planning in advance, while also reducing reserves and flying lighter to save costs.
