International insurer migrates its data centers to AWS Cloud

Helvetia, a major Swiss insurance provider operating across Europe, faced the end of its data center contract and chose to move to the public cloud to modernize its infrastructure and support a cloud-first strategy. Helvetia selected IBM Consulting and Nordcloud, an IBM company, to help migrate its on-premises workloads to AWS while keeping services available and setting the foundation for future savings and faster innovation.

IBM implemented its Nordcloud Migration Factory approach to manage the lift-and-shift migration, onboarding, and hypercare with automation and standardized processes. The result was a smooth transition to AWS, with handover to operations reduced from weeks to under 24 hours per server, and a 70% sustainability improvement through the chosen AWS cloud location. Helvetia also gained greater agility, faster provisioning, lower infrastructure costs, and successfully decommissioned its heritage data centers with IBM.
