A IBM Case Study
Dimagi, a social enterprise that builds mobile health applications (like CommCare) for community health workers in low-resource settings, was struggling with scalability and degraded response times as its CouchDB-based data layer was overloaded by multi-tenant users and complex analytics. To scale more easily and remove ongoing database administration burdens, Dimagi selected IBM and its IBM Cloudant Dedicated Cluster (IBM Cloud) as a managed data layer.
IBM implemented Cloudant Dedicated Cluster, a CouchDB-compatible, multi-threaded, elastic DBaaS with a RESTful JSON API, which removed database maintenance and improved throughput and flexibility. The switch delivered measurable benefits: scalable support for more users and data, significant performance gains (many development tasks reduced from days to hours), faster release of new analytics and app features, and freed developer time to focus on core product work.
