Case Study: La Trobe University achieves cost savings and faster research operations with IBM generative AI

A IBM Case Study

Preview of the La Trobe University Case Study

IBM's generative AI revolutionizes research operations

La Trobe University wanted to use generative AI to improve research operations and speed up the path from research to market, but accessing university-approved knowledge was time consuming and development capabilities were limited. Working with IBM, the university explored a solution using IBM Watson Discovery, IBM watsonx Assistant, and IBM watsonx.ai.

IBM helped La Trobe University build a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) proof of concept and co-design an application that made research knowledge easier to access and turned data into market-ready solutions. The result was a 6x reduction in development time, with the AI component built in less than a week, plus 8.7x cost savings by developing in-house with IBM watsonx Assistant instead of outsourcing.
