Case Study: a grocery retailer achieves near-real-time transaction data delivery with IBM WebSphere messaging

A IBM Case Study

Preview of the Grocery Retailer Case Study

IBM WebSphere messaging backbone quickly delivers transaction data to a central hub

The grocery retailer, a large U.S.-based company with over 2,400 stores, was challenged by a slow, batch-based system for transferring sales and transaction data. This delay of up to a day hindered theft prevention and operational decision-making. To achieve near-real-time data access, they partnered with IBM to implement a new integration infrastructure.

IBM’s solution utilized IBM WebSphere Message Broker and IBM WebSphere MQ to create a reliable, in-store messaging backbone. This new architecture replaced daily batch transfers, allowing transaction data to reach the central data warehouse within seconds of a sale. The IBM implementation dramatically reduced data latency, enabling more informed, timely decisions for customer service and supply chain management.
