IBM Food Trust and Coricelli: the blockchain to increase consumer trust

Pietro Coricelli S.p.A., a leading Italian olive oil company exporting to more than 110 countries, wanted to strengthen consumer trust by improving quality, sustainability, and transparency across its supply chain. Although origin information was already on the label, the company needed a way to share more detailed product journey and safety information, and turned to IBM Food Trust with support from IBM Business Partner SAS Informatica.

IBM implemented a blockchain-based traceability solution using IBM Food Trust and IBM Transparent Supply, integrated with Coricelli’s production systems and exposed to consumers through QR codes and a web app. The rollout was completed in just a few months and traced 4 million kilos of oil, while also publishing analysis certificates and other quality data to boost brand credibility, consumer confidence, and internal digital capabilities.
