IBM and Marcegaglia Group, a partnership to face the new challenges of the market in a sustainable way

Gruppo Marcegaglia, the Italian multinational steel processor, needed a more solid and reliable technology foundation to ensure business continuity, security, performance, and sustainability as it modernized its SAP HANA-based ERP environment. Working with IBM, the company sought a platform that could support growth, reduce document processing time, improve plant efficiency, and better manage rising energy and cybersecurity challenges.

IBM implemented a new infrastructure based on two IBM Power E950 systems with Linux, virtual I/O, and IBM Power HMC, integrated to support SAP HANA with high resilience and easy workload management. The migration was completed quickly with no impact on users, and IBM reported a 20-30% improvement in transaction speed without overloading the system, while also lowering energy cost per transaction and preserving capacity for future growth.
