How Work & Co delivered an essential internal app in weeks, not months

Work & Co, a globally distributed digital product agency, needed to keep its employee directory app running after moving HR and workforce data to Mavenlink. The company wanted to avoid retiring or fully rebuilding the app, while still making it flexible enough to support future data sources and scaling needs. Work & Co worked with IBM StepZen, an IBM Company, to modernize the app’s backend without disrupting daily use.

IBM and StepZen implemented a GraphQL data layer on Mavenlink, replacing direct REST calls and reducing the amount of custom code needed. Using StepZen’s directives and auto parallelism, Work & Co was able to launch the internal app in weeks, improve performance, simplify pagination and security handling, and future-proof the app for new services. The result was faster, more accurate resource planning and a scalable foundation for future growth.
