A IBM Case Study
Edward-Elmhurst Healthcare, formed by the 2013 merger of Edward Hospital & Health Services and Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare, needed to unify cardiology workflows and systems across two campuses. To maintain consistent, high-quality cardiac care, the system kept IBM’s cardiology solutions (Merge Cardio, Merge Hemo and iConnect Access) to provide a single web-based view of each patient record and streamline post-merger integration.
IBM implemented Merge Hemo and Merge Cardio across both campuses and rolled out iConnect Access for zero-download image viewing, automating the cath lab into a digital patient record, centralizing patient data, and enabling real-time monitoring. As a result, Edward-Elmhurst now runs these solutions for about 33,000 cardiology studies per year (22,000 at Edward, 11,000 at Elmhurst), achieving faster, more accurate reporting, improved echocardiogram controls and download speeds, and strong, responsive support from IBM.
