A IBM Case Study
Deutsche Lufthansa AG needed to improve on-time departures, speed passenger boarding and cut costs by avoiding delays by giving Ground Ops staff real-time access to critical turnaround data while on the move. To do this it partnered with IBM — including IBM iX and IBM Mobile Solutions — and targeted iPhone and iPad iOS apps to replace paper, phones and out-of-date information for Flight Managers, Ramp Agents and other ground staff.
IBM designed and delivered a suite of role-based iOS apps (Manage Gates, Turnaround Manager and Ramp App) using Agile development, global delivery and IBM Mobile Solutions for integration, testing and security. The IBM solution consolidated multiple back-end feeds into real-time, interactive workflows, reducing phone calls and paper, increasing Ground Ops productivity, enabling faster aircraft turnarounds and delivering a smoother flying experience for passengers.
