Case Study: ExaVault achieves 99.99% uptime and a 56.6% MTTR reduction with IBM Observability by Instana

How ExaVault maximizes uptime using Instana

Exavault, which handles roughly two billion mission‑critical file transfers per year and an API averaging 35,000 requests per minute, needed much finer, account‑level visibility to avoid costly customer impact. Prior monitoring tools couldn’t tag or filter transactions by user or account, so individual slowdowns were lost in aggregate metrics — a major problem when even a single customer outage can mean lost revenue. Exavault selected IBM Observability by Instana (Instana) to gain the granular, user‑friendly monitoring it lacked.

Using IBM’s Instana, Exavault instrumented API calls with metadata via the Instana SDK, set automated alerts into Slack, and gained the ability to drill down by account or user to debug edge cases. The result: mean time to resolution dropped 56.6%, uptime improved from 99.51% to 99.99%, hidden bugs (like an inefficient cache query) were found and fixed quickly, and the team regained time to focus on new features and roadmap work.
