How a small, rural bank used AI to make happier customers and cut costs

Banca Alpi Marittime Credito Cooperativo, a small rural cooperative bank in Italy, needed a faster way to handle the large number of annual credit-line requests and renewals that were consuming staff time. To improve efficiency without a large in-house IT or data science team, it turned to IBM and IBM Business Partner Analytics Network S.r.l., using an AI-powered credit approval app built with IBM SPSS Modeler.

IBM and Analytics Network implemented Credit Scorecard App to automate credit decisions for requests under €100,000 by analyzing customer financial data and bank history. The solution now automatically approves about 50% of requests, frees up roughly 10 full-time equivalents, saves several thousand euros each year, and gives customers faster answers and better service.
