A IBM Case Study
The customer, an automotive and industrial products industry client, faced the challenge of managing extremely high-volume and complex service parts operations. They required a solution that could integrate planning, procurement, and fulfillment while handling tens of thousands of order lines per hour. To address this, IBM and SAP implemented a performance and scalability test of the SAP solution for Service Parts Management.
IBM built an infrastructure using IBM System p servers, IBM System Storage, and the IBM DB2 database to run the SAP applications. The solution dramatically exceeded its targets, processing 286,200 order lines per hour for fulfillment—nearly double the goal—and reducing a critical 24-hour planning run to under 6 hours. This proved the IBM-powered solution could easily handle the immense data loads of the world's largest automotive service parts networks.
