Case Study: BT Sport achieves high-speed media transfers and automated disaster recovery with IBM Aspera

High-speed transfers and automation support BT Sport’s new production hub

BT Sport, a UK sports broadcaster, required a high-speed file transfer solution to handle ad hoc content ingest, distribution, and automated data replication to an offsite disaster recovery center. Their challenge was to support intense, file-based production workflows and meet a very aggressive implementation timeline for their new production hub. To address this, they partnered with vendor IBM and its Aspera suite of products.

IBM implemented a solution using IBM Aspera Orchestrator for workflow automation, IBM Aspera Sync for data replication, and IBM Aspera faspex for ad hoc transfers. The results included maximizing bandwidth to achieve 5 Gbps transfer speeds and synchronizing up to 40TB of content daily with the disaster recovery site. This provided BT Sport with full business continuity, a rapid disaster recovery capability, and allowed the entire advanced infrastructure to be delivered in under six months.
