Campus Discounts, a Nairobi-based social network that helps students find and recommend local discounts, needed to scale quickly without burdening its small engineering team with database administration and infrastructure work. To solve this, Campus Discounts partnered with IBM and leveraged IBM Cloud services—particularly IBM Compose for database-as-a-service—and IBM Watson to add cognitive features like image, chat and voice search.

IBM implemented a Compose-based multi-database cloud architecture and integrated Watson cognitive services to power advanced search and conversational features, freeing developers to focus on product innovation and faster experimentation. The results: a more engaging user experience, better merchant targeting, and rapid growth—Campus Discounts is now available on more than 36,500 campuses worldwide—demonstrating clear reach and operational improvements enabled by IBM.
