Wi2, a leading public Wi-Fi provider in Japan, wanted to turn data from more than 200,000 Wi-Fi access points into useful insight on visitor preferences and pedestrian flows. Using IBM Cloud Data Services, Wi2 sought a faster way to analyze the huge volume and velocity of mobile app and Wi-Fi data that was too time-consuming to prepare manually.

IBM implemented a cloud-based analytics platform for Wi2 using IBM Cloudant and IBM Db2 Warehouse on Cloud on IBM Cloud. The solution cut analytics cycle times from weeks to days, and in many cases from minutes or seconds, helping Wi2 identify tourist preferences, improve targeting for offers and recommendations, and speed up the development of data-driven services.
