Helping juvenile treatment court improve efficiency and outcomes with an IBM Watson Health solution

Montgomery County Juvenile Court in Dayton, Ohio — a division of the Court of Common Pleas that supervises more than 750 youth each year — faced a challenge: judges like Anthony Capizzi have just 6–10 minutes per child to review rapidly changing information from probation officers, educators, health providers and families. To solve this information bottleneck the court partnered with IBM, adopting the IBM Watson Care Manager solution to provide a concise, real‑time view of each case.

IBM implemented Watson Care Manager to synthesize inputs into a single dashboard judges can drill into (for example, showing the last five drug tests and full histories on demand). The result, according to Judge Capizzi, is faster delivery of pertinent, up‑to‑date information, higher‑quality on‑bench decision support, and better ability to track past actions and precedents — enabling more effective case handling and the potential to help more youths recover sooner.
