MANA Community, a Paris-based NGO focused on protecting forest ecosystems, needed a way to turn vast amounts of social media and other unstructured environmental data into actionable insights about deforestation and corporate activity. To build its MANA-Vox platform, MANA worked with IBM Garage and IBM Watson services to monitor trusted sources and identify relevant information in near real time.
IBM helped implement an AI-driven, cloud-based solution with social listening, translation, natural language understanding, and serverless scaling on IBM Cloud. The result was a production-ready MVP that now analyzes thousands of tweets and linked content daily, filters out about 98% as nonrelevant, and tracks 740 credible sources for insights on 450 corporations, saving MANA countless hours of manual review.
