A IBM Case Study
Hildebrand, a London‑based company, builds the Smart platform to capture, collate and analyze IoT sensor data but faced the challenge of processing massive volumes of high‑velocity time‑series “pulse” data that traditional relational databases could not handle. To overcome this, Hildebrand partnered with IBM and deployed IBM Informix (with IBM Information Management services) to provide native time‑series capabilities and real‑time analytics without large backlogs.
Using IBM Informix, Hildebrand’s Smart platform ingests and analyzes data much more efficiently (stress‑tested to 300,000 data points per second), cutting storage and compute costs to roughly one‑tenth of traditional databases and reducing time‑to‑market for new services. The IBM‑based solution is driving real deployments — for example, a retail footfall service collecting 250 million data points per day and tracking ~300,000 unique visitors daily, and energy projects capturing 7,500 meter readings/second (Energyhive has stored over two billion readings) — delivering real‑time insight and measurable cost and performance gains.
