A IBM Case Study
The German Climate Computing Center (DKRZ) faced an explosion of modeling output data from climate simulations and needed to significantly boost the efficiency, capacity, and performance of its storage systems to support vital climate change research. To address this challenge, DKRZ partnered with IBM to implement an ultra-scalable High Performance Storage System.
Working with IBM Global Technology Services, DKRZ deployed the High Performance Storage System, an archiving solution that manages the end-to-end data lifecycle. This IBM solution provided a 500+ PB capacity, a 10x larger disk cache for faster data access, and a data retrieval rate of up to 18 GB per second. These improvements allow DKRZ to efficiently store rapidly growing volumes of data and provide scientists worldwide with rapid, unified access to experiment data, thereby accelerating critical climate research.
