Georgian Ministry of Education and Science modernizes data infrastructure

The Georgian Ministry of Education and Science in Georgia needed to urgently modernize its Education Management Information System during the COVID-19 shift to distance learning. Its legacy systems were monolithic, tightly coupled, and prone to synchronization errors and outages under heavy use, affecting teachers, parents, and students. IBM worked with the ministry’s IT partner, Orient Logic, to address these challenges with IBM technologies.

IBM helped redesign the environment around Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat Agile Integration, and IBM Instana, moving the platform to a microservices-based, cloud-native architecture with better monitoring, API management, and automation. The result was a 99% reduction in system outages, flawless synchronization after replacing nightly database syncs, faster root-cause detection, and dramatically improved user feedback.
