Galp, the Portugal-based energy company, was challenged by heavily customized SAP ERP systems that made it hard to modernize operations, move faster, and improve both B2B and B2C customer experiences. Working with IBM and SAP, Galp began its transformation in the Azores and Madeira, using SAP S/4HANA and IBM Services to replace manual processes and build a more integrated platform.
IBM implemented SAP Fiori mobile apps, automated digital workflows, and a cloud-based sandbox to support the rollout. The results included 75% straight-through invoice processing, 76% of surveyed back-office users calling the project a success, and a new SAP S/4HANA upgrade completed in just 10 weeks instead of up to six months, helping Galp speed future digital transformation.
